Have you cataloged your books lately?
Apparently I’m not that updated. I just discovered this very interesting site, LibraryThing. It’s a bibliophile haven where you can catalog your books EASILY, tag them and share them with others. How cool is that?! Okay, I’m a dork.
But you see, that’s not all! The creator Tim Spalding is generous enough (oh, bless his book-loving heart) to share LibraryThing for FREE. Yep. Well, it’s basically free; although to add more than 200 books to your library, Spalding is asking for $10 per year, or $25 for a lifetime subscription. That sounds pretty cheap and reasonable to me considering how wonderful this thing works.

- You can sort your books by info such as author, title, date published, or the tags you’ve used to describe them.
- It has a very powerful search tool to check out what’s already in your library.
- You can enter a book using sloppy info (a plus for lazy people like me LOL). For example, you want to enter Paullina Simons’ The Bridge to Holy Cross. You can type “holy cross simons” and sure enough, it finds the right one. Just click and viola!—all the bibliographic info are added to your list.
- You can actually check out other people’s libraries, see who has the same books you do, and get recommendations from those who have similar tastes in books. (If you prefer not to show others your library, you can edit your profile to make yours a “private” account.)
- You can export your catalogue as a CSV file. Very, very helpful!
- Also, Spalding does some useful listing of the top 25 most owned/reviewed/by star rating books, etc.

Any posts about LibraryThing should come with an addiction post. I have been cataloguing my books there for the past few days, and it is so much fun!!
BTW another really fun feature is that you can put a graphic on your blog and it randomly selects books from your library and shows it on your sidebar!! I've been visiting my own blog regularly just to see if I can see which books it chose randomly this time!!

LOL This LibraryThing is addictive! Very helpful for people like me who tend to forget what books i actually have already. Oh i didn't know about that putting graphics on the sidebar. Will look into it, thanks. :D

It's like Library Thing and I totally know how addicting it is and doesn't it trip you out when you log in your books into it and you find out just how many books you've accumulated over the years?

I enjoy this blogger so much! It is the first one that I truely enjoy the most. And no one Flames you! (not yet?)
I found you and this in one day! Lucky me! I shared it with my friends. I have a huge collection of paper books. This is so incredibly easy. I don't even have to type caps.
I agree that I am putting off doing something else...to log in my books by the hundreds.
And it is true I have bought the same book more than...twice? Should I admit it?
Like Rich Simmons book was borrowed 3 times. So I kept buying to own for myself at least one. Do ya think I'd learn? na. But yes, I just returned a dragonology book that I bought last year, yesterday.
I have been trying to organize my books via many different ways. Paper, my own computer; this beats all!

What downsizing? Send them this way! I actually have donated books to the public library or church's take them, gladly. And then they can keep or sell them. xoxo Ma/LI
