Book Selections of the Month (May/June/July '07)

Harlot and I have talked about making the “Harry Potter” series BBC since the first time we made a book selection, and every month after that. Yet, we always came to the same conclusion: “We have to wait until book 7 is announced and almost ready to come out so we can discuss 1-6 at length and be able to delve into the last book right away.” And now, my friends, the time has finally come. *g*

It is a joyous moment for us HP lovers, especially since we hope to convert a few new fans (*cough* Tami, Luci, Dance, Aggie *cough*), and yet it’s bittersweet as well knowing that July 21st it will all come to an end. *sniff* That witch better not kill any more of my favorite characters, is all I’m saying! *grrr*

I’ve been pondering the best way to go about reading 6 books in two months. Harlot suggested we do it the same way we read and discussed the “Hunter Legends,” but I would like something a bit more individual. I want to discuss each book on its own, and then contrast and compare theories. This is what we came up with:

We’ll have two weeks for each book (except for HP1) and then open a discussion and questions post the week we are to start on the next tome. This is the schedule I’ve prepared:
Any questions?

And yes, yes, we’re HP uber nutters but we are, after all, talking about one of the most magnificent book series ever. Seriously—ever, ever, EVAAAHH! That’s why, being the Good Samaritans that we are, *g* we’re going to lead you infidels down the holy HP path and discuss it we will. So you guys better start reading and I really mean that. *grrr* I have powers you haven’t seen; trust me, I can do stuff to those who don’t read/participate. I’ll sick Harlot The BBC Nazi after you! ;P

YAY! I'll start with HP1 tonight :D Good call for making it only one week because it's really a thin book and such a fast read!

Gabrielle, I'm actually dreading July 21st. I want to read the book already but this is it, the last one. :(

You know, there is something about seeing the pics of all the HP books together and us discussing it that makes it so final... I don't know if i should be sad or be elated. :S

HBP is one of my favorites in the series. A lot of important things happen in that book. Definitely worth the read. ;)

Seriously, without dear Jim Dale (is that his name?) I couldn't have enjoyed HP at all. I started reading HP one, about the part where Harry went to that island...I got interrupted.

Later on, way later, as in after movie #2, I listened to HP in order via audio book. I'd knit or crochet if I wasn't baking or cooking while listening. From then on, I couldn't stand the print version of the book. It has to be read to me.

I so enjoyed it, and I think I'll listen to it all over again, but I will probably slit my throat if I have to read the book.

Does that make sense? Have this ever happened to you?

I have pre-order my audio book, and if I am really lucky, I might get my audio a day or two earlier than the release date...maybe.

I am reading HP1 and am stuck *sigh*. I have an excuse though :) I watched the movie and cannot concentrate on the book. I see that I must get to the end to fulfill your mission. I get tired even thinking about the five i still have left to go. Didn't watch the second film so i might be more enraptured by that.

I really am making an effort, is that enough Trollop ? :) :)

Ladies, Aggie is trying to cheat! LOL

Shosh, i've read all HP books first in those uber pritti US hardcovers by Scholastic and loved it of course, but i know what you mean. "Reading" through Jim Dale is a different way to experience HP's world. To tell you the truth, i do think it's better than reading the books in print. I don't know how Jim Dale does it really but he is AMAZING. I love the way he voices the different characters and even without saying who's talking, just basing it from Jim's voice, i will know who it is. He's fantastic.

Hola!

I am THRILLED that Vicious Trollope directed me here--I'm just about ready to start reading "Sorcerer's Stone" and I'll bet that I have "Chamber" done by the 25th (for some reason, though, "Chamber" is my least favorite HP book).

YAY! There is much happy-dancing going on over here. I can't wait to jump into the discussion.

Thanks, Vicious Trollope for giving me the link!

Katie,

*Hi*

So glad you stopped by. We love one and all HP nuts like ourselves LOL and GG lovers too, of course *wink*

You know, Chamber's is my least favorite HP too. I mean, its great, just not as good as the others. Still, this will be my first re-read of HP2 so I might change my mind :) Already half-way done.
