BBC: The Bronze Horseman (Day 2)

Hello, wonderful readers. *big grin*

Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, should I slap all of you who have read TBH but are not participating in the discussion around? I’m not very strong so that isn’t much of a threat LOL, but fear not, because I can yell with the best of them: “POST COMMENTS, YOU LAZY BITCHES!” *angelic smile*

Here is the next question (and I’ll be passing attendance!!!):
  • What do you think would have happened if Dasha had made it to Lazarevo? Could the situation from Leningrad have continued when Alexander arrived? Or would he have ended the charade out of frustration, preferring to lose Tatiana altogether than to have to continue pretending?
I found some interesting pictures in Paullina Simon’s site, and did a bit of research for others. I will be posting a couple with every question as we publish them every day this week. Enjoy...

You are so bossy! Fine, I'm posting but I can't think clearly this week so it will be a bit of a ramble. I tried to comment last night but lost all brain ability and after a long winded comment I deleted it all.
Okay, here goes.
If Dasha had made it to Lazarevo I don't think Alexander would have been able to continue the charade. I also dont' think it would have been necessary to continue the charade b/c Tatiana wouldn't have been able to hide her excitement at seeing him again and would've give herself up (as would Alexander). Dasha was already seeing signs of their true feelings so a reunion, even if they tried to hide their excitement, would have shown their true feelings. At least that's what I like to think.

I know this was in Part I but I'm LASY BITCH and will post it here. Do we know for sure if Dasha and Alexander were having sex the whole time they were seeing eachother after he met Tatiana?
I'm with Trollop I have a hard time forgiving that.
But I loved Alexander, I just can't help it (aside from angry, asshole outbursts and other annoying things, of course)

See, rambling.

Those uniforms = hot.... haha.... If Dasha would have made it to L-town I WOULD BE SO PISSED! She would definetly see that they had the hots for eachother and would have either died of heartbrake (drama queen), never spoken to them ever again, or left and never be heard from again. Alright so something else may have happened but I don't like Dasha and I wanted her to drop outa the book. I think Alexander would have told her if she didn't already know when he arrived. He couldn't keep away from Tatiana. and in regards to the last post about my feelings for him... i just remember something to add.... I'd do him... haha

AND another thing.... when she saw dead people on the streets of Leningrad, why didn't she search the bodies for ration cards? I mean that would have been the smart thing to do right? or maybe i'm just evil and that would be really wrong, but i mean come on its not like they are going to use them!

Maybe we should talk to PS about this whole Dasha/Alexander sex stuff. Maybe she can clarify WHY and IF they actually had sex after he met Tatiana.

Vixen, you need to read the second book to find the answer to that question.

Also on PS's site there are some pictures of exactly what the Metanov's apartment would look like. I thought I had imagined small, but it was nowhere near small enough!

There is another site where you can see some different images as well. Some are the same, but there are some others -

Back later to answer questions!

Tatiana is the one who was making Alexander stay with Dasha! He didn't want to...he was doing it because Tatia said so. Tatiana kept evolving little by little throughout the book, and I think that if Dasha had made it, Tatia would have finally realized that there were more important things than protecting selfish Dasha, who didn't give a hoot about Tatia's feelings...EVER!

I love this book! Thanks for the recommendation!

vicious trollop! fucking pasha? I think the situation is a little different! Had Pasha fallen in love with Alexander before Alexander had met Tatiana and realized he liked girls better, then the situation would be the same...but since it's not...it's not. Anyway, whose side are you on? Tatia because Alexander was with Dasha and you think he was being a pig? Or Alexander, because you don't like that Tatia asked him to stay with Dasha? Or are you just against both of them?

I agree with Trollop.

When they arrived at Lazarevo, it was clearly the end of all their pretending. When they saw each other, Alexander didn't even thought of Dasha, who was already dead, but he didn't know that and yet, all he could do was hug Tatia for so long, so happy to see her, even stupid people will realize they were lovers. And even if Dasha made it to Lazarevo, she and Alexander can't jsut continue their relationship because a) Dasha already knew Alexander loved Tatia while they were crossing Lagoda and b) at this point, like Trollop said, Alexander wouldn't be able to supress his feeligns for Tatia anymore.

LOL Hi Kate.

It's both their fault. It's stupid to ask Alexnader to stay with Dasha when from the beginning he clearly stated to Tatia taht he prefers her. Tania did a stupid thing and they both suffered. It's wrong of Alenxader to sleep with Dasha but why would i held this agaisnt him when it was clearly okay for Tania? Still no excuse for Alenxader to be with Dasha. LOL

*****SPOILERS*****

Ladies,

I think most of us agree that Alexander’s pretense of being enamored with Dasha was Tatia’s fault for asking him to live that lie. Most of us also agree that he was a bastard for sleeping with Dasha, despite the ‘permission’ Tatia gave by her silence on the matter. As VT put it in her lovely way, "If a guy dare treat me that way, he’d be out the door so fast (with some pointy kitchen utensil all the way up his ass)" LOL.

Anyway, I just want to give another angle to this discussion. Maybe PS did the Alexander-sleeping-with-Dasha situation to show us Tatia’s youth and immaturity at that stage in the book. From the beginning, as the story went along, you could sense the strength unfurling within Tatia. Yet for all that, she was still, very much a child in so many ways, particularly when it came to the ‘birds and the bees’. Compare her reaction to Alexander making out with Dasha here, and her reaction in The Summer Garden when Alexander got into a ‘thing’ with another woman. For those who have read TSG, I think you understand what I mean.

By TSG, Tatia was her own woman. When she forgave Alexander for his actions, it was because she loved him enough to help him become a better person, not because she was afraid to walk out on him. It was this strength that dictated her reaction at that point; a vastly different (and satisfying) reaction compared to the way she meekly accepted the Alexander-Dasha situation.

Trollop-

good point. I think I am starting to agree with you, but I'm still not sure whether that makes them:

a) really strong characters for being able to withstand such a thing

b) really weak characters who can't actually stand up for what they want when they want

c) completely implausible

Perhaps you think that latter?

But if he stayed away from Dasha he would have no pretext for spending time with the family as a whole (and with Tania as a result of that). He would have had no reason to visit with the Metanovs, to assist with additional food and other help. By keeping up the pretense with Dasha, he maintained the only contact he could with Tatiana.

Would I accept that behaviour from my family if I had a bloke? No, probably not. Would I put those kind of restrictions on him in the first place. I certainly hope not!

Okay, hypothetically. If Dasha had made it to Lazarevo do you (anyone reading this) think Dasha would've given up so easy? Or do you think she would've just tried to pretend she didn't notice anything and thrown herself at Alexander more than ever?

I kind of think she only told Tatiana she could see they had feelings for eachother on the truck b/c she knew she wasn't going to make it.

Just curious what everyone thinks. (I hope it's okay that I added a question)

If Dasha had made it to Lazarevo, Alexander would really have been in a pickle especially when he has written such a poetic letter declaring his love for her and that nothing would stop him from coming to marry her.

How would he have handled it? Well, that's the number one question. For sure if Dasha had not died, she would have written Alexander so he would know. I'm thinking he probably would have married her because the charade had gone on too far to end.

I think that if Dasha had survived and made it to Lazarevo, Alexander would have already known because there would have been letters etc. I like to think that Alexander would have managed to make it clear to everyone that he wanted to be with Tania. Of course, I would be interested to know if she would have insisted on secrecy in the same way as she had previously.

Hi, I'm not much of a poster around here, but I have read TBH (and sequals), at least 10 times. (By the way, I love the site, I read it constantly - keep up the good work!)

But I have to answer this question with Alexander's own words... he tells Tatiana in Lazarevo when she asks if he would have married Dasha that HIS TRUTH would have had to come out. In other words, he wouldn't have continued the charade, even if it meant loosing Tatiana, he would never have married her sister.

Oh yeah... and **Spoiler** if you read the second book - especially the original looooooong version -you learn pretty quickly that Alexander stops having sex with Dasha around the same time as Tatiana's visit to see him at St. Issacs. After Luga he knows he loves Tatiana and he stops being with anyone else, even Dasha (which Dasha eludes to in TBH by saying they hadn't been together since August).

Interesting but I dont think its wise for a guy to get involvded with 2 sisters. Even if he feels its proven love because actually it just confused the entire situation. He should stand his ground and abide by his own judgement. Who knows? Maybe Dasha would have spoke of her feelings but she was told he had love for her sister which brings me back to my point it confuses everything. By the way, who was pasha? Now Im confused.
