Vampires, designer shoes and orgies

Undead and Unwed
by MaryJanice Davidson

The good...

I fell in love with Betsy (Elizabeth Taylor) within the first pages of Undead and Unwed that by the time I got to the part where the fiends attack her and found myself erupting in hysterical laughter, I was sold. To start, she’s a fellow shoe lover so we were obviously starting with the right designer-clad foot. Also, from early on, we get a taste of Betsy’s sharp wit and sarcastic tongue. She has a quirky comeback to everything, even while stuck in the oddest situations; anything, from waking up dead wearing cheap plastic shoes and makeup apparently applied by a crack whore, to spending a Friday night in a cemetery’s mausoleum with badly dressed vampires who look like extras from a Boy George 8O’s video.

Eric Sinclair, the hero, is absolutely yummy and very sexy. He can eat me... er, I mean feed from me any time he wants. One thing I really liked about him is his sharp fashion sense as I utterly despise books with badly dressed characters. I.e. books where men wearing bermuda shorts, a sports jacket and loafers with no socks are described as “well dressed” (authors with such bad taste should be taken out back and shot!).

The bad...

Betsy’s best friends, Jessica and Mark, were like secondary characters in a low budget porn flick: absolutely unnecessary and annoyingly distracting. They didn’t add much to the story and for the most part, I pretended they weren’t there.

And the weird...

I was left speechless by some parts of this book. Call me old fashioned, but watching the guy you like going at it with, not one, not two, but *gasp* three women would have me running for the door! Betsy seems to be made of stronger stuff than me since she stayed and watched accompanied by a female vampire—who then wanted to play dueling tongues with her.

Overall this is a cute read; I mostly recommend it for chick lit lovers. For readers that are looking for a romance, I should warn that the relationship between Betsy and Sinclair is a secondary one, but still very hot and steamy.

I've read the first two of this series, and enjoyed them too (*gasp*, I enjoy a vampire story, it must be the end of the world as we know it LOL). I love the shoes more than Betsy though, she's a bit irritating and stupid LOL.
