Oh, happy day!

So seldom these days do we hear good news; happily today is one of those days. Jill Carroll, a 28 year old woman, a U.S. free lance journalist working for The Christian Science Monitor who had been kidnapped in Baghdad, was released today, safe and unharmed, from her kidnappers after 3 months of captivity.

Her kidnappers had demanded that all women hostages be released in Iraq by February 25th or Carroll would be beheaded. Carroll’s release happened one day after her twin sister Katie pleaded on Arab television for mercy from her sister’s captors. Sources are saying that was pivotal in Jill Carroll’s release.

This is breaking news and we still do not have many details, but I am sure more will be forthcoming today. We are so happy for the Carroll family for this joyous news. Unfortunately, it must be noted that Carroll’s translator was butchered by the same men who kidnapped her.

I know so many were praying that this young woman’s life be spared. Thank God this story had a happy ending when almost all the men who faced this same situation were killed.

Our thoughts are with the Carroll family on what surely must be the happiest day of their lives. We can’t wait to welcome Ms. Carroll home. Oh, happy day, indeed!

I'm happy she was released, I truly am.

But did CNN have to stay on this one story for the entire 45 minutes I was working out this morning at the gym?!? What happened to new news every 5 seconds, hmmmm? Maybe a little more of the short news clips that were invented to placate channel surfers, but are quite welcome if the guym-setting because no one seems to know where the remote is, let alone the volume control.

But noooooo, it was "we have nothing new to report, but we'll go back to our correspondent so he can repeat the same story yet again and again and again."

This is great news. Saw it this morning on Breakfast news.

A Canadian born NZer who was kidnapped and held hostage in Iraq was released last week and arrived back in NZ earlier this week. He's not approached media yet, but did say through representatives that he'd talk to media today (Friday). He was a Christian peace activist. And I think, to be really blunt, a fucking idiot for going to Iraq during a war. But I guess he felt passionately about what the war. Still, like our PM said - stay out or die really.

I agree. I'm grateful to see Ms. Carroll released safely, and I hope that what she has to say about her experience in the coming months will prove instructive on the natural of meaningful relations between cultures in a time of unpopular war. Thank you.

By the way, I'm a new blogger, and stumbled across your site at random. I love your format and will be bookmarking you to my favorites.
