I was tortured by the pygmy love queen

Who gives a fuck about the Booker when we have Bestseller’s Diagram Prize for Oddest Book Title of the Year? It’s the only literary prize where the content of the book doesn’t matter at all! :D The 2008 shortlist includes:
  • I Was Tortured by the Pygmy Love Queen by Jasper McCutcheon
  • How to Write a How to Write Book by Brian Piddock
  • Are Women Human? And Other International Dialogues by Catharine A MacKinnon
  • Cheese Problems Solved by P L H McSweeney
  • If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs by Big Boom
  • People Who Mattered in Southend and Beyond: From King Canute to Dr Feelgood by Dee Gordon

Horace Bent, Bookseller’s diarist and custodian of the prize, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, explained the motivation behind the award. “I confess, I have been anxious that as publishing becomes ever more corporate, the trade’s quirky charms are being squeezed out,” he said. “But happily my fears have been proved unfounded: oddity lives on.” (Source)

You’d think this list would be filled with romance novels: The Mediterranean’s Billionaire’s Secret Baby, The Happy Hooker, Mile-High Escapades of the Stewardess with the Moustache... Erm, anywho, more about this year’s “odd” books here. You can vote for your fave on the Bookseller’s website; the winner will be announced on March 28. My money’s on the Pygmy Love Queen. Anyone who trooly knoooows how to torture her love slaves deserves to win. *g*

Romance novels have the oddest and funniest titles. Specially Harlequin books. The Billionaire Boss and His Illicit Affair with the Secretary. Why do they have to put the plot on the title?
