Devil in winter

Short post to say I really enjoyed Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas.

I’ve read some of her stuff before and wasn’t all that impressed, to be honest, but this book was different. I absolutely loved the hero. He has some of the best dialogue I’ve encountered in a romance book. I like that he’s depraved, shameless and totally honest about marrying the heroine only for money. I thought it was refreshing that he wasn’t embarrassed about being in financial ruin.

I got this recommendation from the girls over at The Book Binge. They were having a discussion (of sorts) on who was a better hero: Derek or Sebastian? I thought I’d never heard of either but Holly made Sebastian St. Vincent sound so sexy I just had to read his story *g*, and seeing as I have most of Kleypas’ books in my TBR (misguided judgment on my part, I’ll tell you right now LOL) I went ahead and started.

I am so glad I didn’t find out the Derek they were referring to was that guy from, er, whatever that Kleypas book was. You know, the hero had a casino and she was a teacher? Well, whatever. All I know is he was a nasty piece of work who had sex with a prostitute; she was an idiot and someone burned a building down (maybe the prostitute?).

Still confused why they were even comparing these two characters, except maybe for the fact they were both written by LK? Who knows? I’m just happy I gave Devil in Winter a chance because it was verra good!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Seb is just easy to love, I think. He's so much better than Derek.

I was going to recommend another LK book with a strong hero, but not I can't remember. I need a vacation.

There's only a couple of LK books that did nothing for me.

For other LK books with strong heroes, I would try Suddenly You.

As for WHY...well, some people love Derek, some people love Sebastian, some people love both - and it was time to declare which side you were on! No other reason than that really!

I'm not a big Kleypas fan. She always has side stories that bore me.

Derek was too alpha. Might give Devil in Winter a chance if Sebastian is that sexy.

Trollop would you say he's as sexy or more sexy than Jamie Fraser?

I like some of Kleypas' work. The Wallflower series -- Devil in Winter, Scandal in Spring, Secrets of a Summer Night and It Happened One Autumn.

Also, her latest, "Mine til Midnight", which I think is set up to be another series. The heroine in the first book has three sisters and a brother, all unmarried.

Not perfect books, but readable and enjoyable enough. I think her backlist is kinda iffy and prefer her more recent books, though I haven't read her contemporary one.

I like Sebastian best of her male characters. :D

My favorite book from LK was 'Suddenly You'. I have to say Jack was a really great hero and Amanda made a fine heroine.

Another great read from her in my opinion would be 'Lady Sophia's Lover'.

Other than those Two, the Wallflowers are the only other ones I like from her.

I agree with Cassy on Lady Sophia's Lover. I loved that one. It has a sequel with Nick Gentry (Sophia's brother) as the hero - and that too is good, though, I can't remember the title LOL.

Sebastian is hot!

Oh, I love Sebastian. Sigh...

I just finished LK's newest Mine Till Midnight and loved it. By the way, the hero is Cam Rohan from Devil In Winter.

I'll answer. No comparison. Sebastian, unlike Jamie, is not gay. *g*

But what does that have to do with how hot he is (or isn't)? If Jamie were gay to begin with. Lord John is -- and I find him extremely crushworthy.

Dance,

True. And V. from the "what-the-fuck-is-it-called-that-i-can-never-remember-the-name" series is bi and he is H.O.T. hot.

As far as Sebastian and Jamie. Well, jamie is an abusive idiot and Sebastian is funny and sarcastic and totally full of himself which I love. Also he's really depraved and kinky. Totally swoon worthy which Jamie is so not!

True LOL. Please do excuse me as my loathing of despicable Fraser clouds my thinking.

Speaking of Outlander, i heard the new book got Adulteress Claire raped again? :/
