Update on Crazy Diet and small rant on sizes

Yeah, I’m not doing that pepper and lemon fast. The body odor/nasty breath thing scared me away. I’d rather be fat and clean LOL.

I’m taking Sibutramine-based diet pills (please, spare me the “that’s so bad for you” comments; I’ve been taking them for years). These pills are AMAZING. Bad thing is my body is kinda used to them now so the effect isn’t the same as it was years ago. Trying to smuggle some out of the country for Harlot. *g*

If you had to wear this bridesmaid’s dress for a wedding you wouldn’t want to look like a pig in a frock either!

And can I just rant a second about this Jim Hjelm person. I’m a street size 8 (hoping to end in a 6 after lipo swelling goes down—3 more months to go, woohoo!). I measured myself before ordering and I’m a 14 in this brand!!! WTF? This is the type of thing that contributes to eating disorders. How on earth do they manage to make a healthy size 8 into a plus size 14? Granted, I’ll have to get the dress taken in on top because it is too big, but my thighs fit it perfectly. The same thing happened to the other girls which are STICKS; they’re all street sizes 2-4 and had to buy 8-10. Yeah, you can tell by this that I’ll be the dreaded “fat bridesmaid.” *sob*

Here’s to a thinner me for Xmas!

There are crazy fucks everywhere *BEWARE*

I’m an eBay whore; really, you wouldn’t believe the amount of stuff I buy from eBay. Anywho, years ago I had an Aveeno moisturizer I loved and had to stop using as these are only sold in the U.S. and it was hard for me to get ahold of.

I try to buy a new brand every time I’m out of moisturizer/night creams. In the last two years I’ve gone through Clarins, Christian Dior, Clinique, Chanel and Sephora Brand (which, OMG SUCKS!). I decided it might be time to see if Aveeno was as good as I remembered. I ordered it from a seller in eBay and got my package in perfect condition—except for the small fact that it EXPIRED in August. WTF?

I emailed the seller and this was part of her initial reply:

If I did not think it were good I would not have listed it. It being an 08 exp I would think it still be good.

Oh well, if SHE thinks a product that expired four months ago is good, then by all means I should be using it instead of following what the company says. Crazy fuck. But what irks me the most is that she KNEW this product was expired and didn’t put it anywhere in the item description! I emailed her back something along these lines and she replies:

I am sorry that this has been a problem for you. I know it is our responsibility to read listings and if there is a question it should be asked before purchase. I myself have failed to do this and accept my responsibilty as a buyer and have never left a negative feedback when it was my choice to bid or purchase. If you feel the need to blame me for your purchase then there is nothing I can do to stop you. This is something that sellers are faced with. I am refunding your money today and enjoy your moisturizer.

WHAT. THE. FUCK? Well, this lady is obviously not well in the head. IT WASN’T MY CHOICE TO BUY AN EXPIRED PRODUCT!!! It wasn’t listed anywhere! *grrrrr* And what does she mean “enjoy your moisturizer”? Who the hell would put some damaged cream in their face and near their eyes?!?! Of course I’m blaming her, she admitted she knew it was expired! Am I the only one that thinks this person is clearly unbalanced?

In the end she gave me a refund, which I’m happy about. I’ve learned my lesson and will now ALWAYS ask sellers if they are selling me expired crap. Yes, Harlot, even if they believe me batshit crazy afterwards.

Sick fucks Breastfeeding-holics

This is by far one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. This woman should be in counseling and so should those little girls.

I have serious issues with women that use breastfeeding to fill up some void inside them. Of course they say it’s for the kids, but I highly doubt having an almost pre-teen sucking on your breast is a good thing for their mental health no matter how many “benefits” breast milk has. And if breastfeeding kids that are probably growing pubic hair gives them higher IQs how come these girls SUCK at playing those instruments? The “forever” tit obviously didn’t work on them.

I’ve asked my mom, and she breastfed us for about six months which I think sounds about right. A year is fine, I suppose, but in my book, anything after two is pushing it. No one out there can tell me having a five or eight-year-old eating from your breast is not disturbing! And that’s not even getting into the obvious obsession these girls have with their mom’s breasts. I’m pretty sure I never made drawings of my mother’s breasts, let alone named them: Milky-o and Boobie-o? Give. Me. A. Fucking. Break.

UPDATE: You know, the more I read about this extended breastfeeding business the more I see this is all about the mother and very little about the child. These women don’t want to let their babies grow up and think keeping them latched to their nipples is the solution.

SECOND UPDATE: I just thought about how these girls must feel now two years after that documentary, specially the oldest one. Can you imagine what it must be like at school for them? That “mother” should be whipped!

Melissa Etheridge has the right idea

I get so mad at American puritans who don’t mind going to war and killing innocent people, who think it’s just fine and dandy to hand out guns as party favors, who believe doing drugs is no more than a recreational activity, but abhor human beings that love each other just because they share the same sex. Who the hell are these 51% of Californians that think they are god? Why do they have the right to take away someone else’s right to be treated as equals? Why are homosexuals not allowed to get married if God created them just as he created us heterosexuals? These people should be ashamed of themselves and the rest of the world should be ashamed of them too.

This gets me so mad I can’t even think coherently so I’ll leave you with Mrs. Etheridge words on the subject. Go Melissa!

Singer Melissa Etheridge rails against the passage of the gay-marriage ban in California—and she won’t be paying the state a dime:

Okay. So Prop 8 passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think that I am a second class citizen. Alright then. So my wife, uh I mean, roommate? Girlfriend? Special lady friend? You are gonna have to help me here because I am not sure what to call her now. Anyways, she and I are not allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen. Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books.

Okay, cool I don’t mean to get too personal here but there is a lot I can do with the extra half a million dollars that I will be keeping instead of handing it over to the state of California. Oh, and I am sure Ellen will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes too. Wow, come to think of it, there are quite a few of us fortunate gay folks that will be having some extra cash this year. What recession? We’re gay! I am sure there will be a little box on the tax forms now single, married, divorced, gay, check here if you are gay, yeah, that’s not so bad. Of course all of the waiters and hairdressers and UPS workers and gym teachers and such, they won’t have to pay their taxes either.

Back to blogging?

For the first time in forever I feel like I want to sit down and write something for the blog; lovely feeling let me tell you. *g*

A couple of things:
  • I HATE MY JOB. HATE HATE HATE it. *sigh* I’m actively looking for another job in an international org (local or abroad).
  • I had a liposuction done 2 months ago. *HUGE grin* I got my upper/lower abs, thighs, back, hips and flanks sucked, baby! For some reason I’ve been eating like a hog lately so today I’m starting a diet. Wish me luck.
  • Harlot refuses to blog again which is fine. I understand how she feels because it’s just like I feel (felt?). I’m not really one to sit around and live life through a computer screen and at one point I felt like this blog was taking up too much of my daily life; I resented that.
  • I have some book recommendations I will be posting. And I have soooooooooooooo much to say on the American elections and you just know it has a lot to do with Sarah Palin LOL. I really hope some of you are still hanging around and if not, I suppose I’ll just have write for myself!

Duke of Shadows, where are you?

I’ve been looking for an ebook copy of The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran for the last two days and can’t find one. *sniff* It seems that none of the online stores I use have it.

Someone at Dear Author added an ebook link to the S&S website but it takes you nowhere (after clicking a gazillion links, that is *grrr*).

No idea why I’m so obsessed with getting this book. It might be because somehow the plot reminds me of Paradise by Judith McNaught which is my favorite romance ever.

Also, I haven’t read a single book since I finished that stupid Robin Schone book. Gad, what a horror to read that book was. ACKKKKKKKKKKKK!

As an added bonus I’ll link a very bad video I made of the book LOL. Er, and when I say very bad I mean exactly that.

Firefox: Is this made by Mozilla or Microsoft?

Thomas said I should give the new Firefox 3 a try and I did. Now I remember why I hated it so much the first time I tried it. THIS THING FUCKS UP ALL MY PREDETERMINED BROWSER SETTINGS! *GRRRR* Such an MS thing to do!

I just spent 15 mins of my morning trying to get all my settings back. Every time I opened IE or Safari, a Firefox window would come up. WHAT. THE. FUCK? Worse thing is when I was installing it it would only give me the option to set it as my default browser even when I tried to do it via custom install. Why would they do that? Shouldn’t the customer/user be the one to determine what program they want to use to surf the web?

I’m pissed enough to uninstall this without even giving it a try. Why must they be so Microsoft-like?

How much is TMI?

For years now, I’ve been part of the WWW life. BBs, debates, blogs, chat rooms, etc. In all honesty, I’m not a frequent poster anywhere (not even here lately LOL) so that might be why I’ve yet to discuss my personal life in public forums with relative strangers. I find there’s something not quite right about adults washing their dirty laundry—so to speak—for all to see.

I’ve seen some weird revelations around the web, everything—from cheating to being cheated on, from having cancer to contracting venereal diseases, from being 50 and still a virgin, to having been raped/molested as a teen.

I’m so surprised by this. I’m by no means what you’d call a private person. Heck, I’ll talk about anything generic: fun, sex related, etc—but there’s no way I’m going to go to a public forum and let strangers know that “my husband has sex with farm animals and I cheat with the next door neighbor that’s an ex-con who raped little boys.”

Really, aren’t some things best discussed with family or friends? And if you have no friends and no family to discuss these problems with then you better take a long hard look at your life because there is something not right there.

I won’t even share small details like my name LOL. A lot of you know it because I’m not exactly hiding it. I’m just not going out of my way to make it public either. Information is power and when you give it away that power goes to someone else’s hand. Do you really want that?

I was over at Karen Scott’s the other day and my heart breaks for her. Some web nut is making fun of her for not being able to have children. I would have filed that under “generic” information seeing as so many people go through the same thing. Now I find myself wondering if nothing is “generic”, if actually, you shouldn’t share anything at all!

The WWW is full of crazy fucks and the last thing I want is one of them tracking me down and eating me for supper LOL.

Vista headache

My old laptop is wonderful and not really “old” (I got it around a year and a half ago), but because I work with a lot image editing and web designing tools I decided I needed to get a more powerful machine.

I bought myself a beautiful new HP Pavilion with 4GB of RAM memory and Intel Dual Core processors (my old one had an Intel Celeron processor and only 512 of RAM). Let me tell you, this computer is breathtakingly beautiful. The design is a pure delight to look at. So much so that I sit and stare at it for minutes at a time marveling at the simple beauty of it. *sigh* The problem is, that I also find myself staring for eons at a damn browser page and/or program that takes freaking forever to load!

At first I thought it was something wrong with my brand new computer. I started googling stuff like mad and through the search results realized that the problem isn’t my Black Beauty but freaking Windows Vista. THIS OPERATING SYSTEM SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *arrrggg*

I’ve spend the last two days trying to tweak and hound a brand new super powerful PC to find a way to optimize an operating system that should not be sold or installed into any computer if it doesn’t damn well work. Just writing this, my Physical Memory is up to fifty-fucking-six percent—AND WORD IS ALL I HAVE OPEN.

I cannot begin to tell you how frustrating this is. I want my XP back. *sniff*

The only thing that gives me hope is that all the articles I’ve read about optimizing Vista say that once you’ve disabled all the useless features that eat up your RAM, the program is quite good. In the mean time, I’m a WinVista slave.

Note: During my waiting-for-stuff-to-load time I’ve drawn up a chart of people raped/abused/molested/beaten in that gad-awful Robin Schone book I had the misfortune to read. I’ll type it in as soon as my computer is in working order.

Pissing idiots off Bad book reviews

It’s always been a wonder to me how upset people get over others not liking books they do. Over the years, I’ve thought of many reasons for this phenomenon: everything from stupidity to low self-esteem and then some other things I refuse to mention in polite society. *wink* I’ve yet to come up with a satisfying answer. If anyone has a hypothesis, be sure and let me know since this has cost me a few sleepless night laughing myself silly.

Whenever I’m going to buy a book I always check Amazon’s ratings. If the book is over 4 stars I’ll probably get it—unless someone I share book tastes with previously recommended it, in which case I’ll go as low as 3.5. I always read one or two 5 star reviews and 1 star reviews. I don’t much trust books that have less than 20 reviews and I most definitely don’t trust books that have no bad ratings! It has to have at least a 2 stars in the mix or I’m not buying it LOL. (This is similar to me not trusting people who don’t drink. I have serious psychiatric issues.)

Bad reviews can convince me to buy a book as much as good reviews. In some cases, they’ll have me deciding even faster! Like this Madeline Hunter book, Rules of Seduction. Admittedly, I haven’t liked the Highland romances I’ve read of hers, but this book has two things going for it: a 4.5 rating and this 2 star review by an affronted reader:

I really tried to enjoy this book. It is my first Madeline Hunter book but I just could not get past the lack of chemistry I felt between the main characters. Why would Hyden be attracted to Alexia? She did not even seem interesting. I just could not buy it. I stopped at page 140 or so. The plot was nothing compared to a Lisa Kleypas’ (e.g., Then Came You) or a Liz Carlyle book (e.g., No True Gentleman).

Now, I’m not acquainted with Liz Carlyle’s writing, but the moment I read it was nothing compared to Then Came You I knew I had to buy Rules of Seduction. Gad, but if that Kleypas doesn’t have the most obnoxious heroine ever and the stupidest characters this side of the Equator I don’t know what book does.

The moral of this story: Don’t be an idiot, and enjoy different perspectives and views of a book you loved—or hated. You’ll probably end up noticing things you didn’t even know were there. Oh, and also, read bad Amazon reviews before you buy any book. They’re really amusing; some will even have you peeing in your pants—they’re so funny. And of course, who wouldn’t want to pee in their pants? LOL

Book recommendations

In one of my previous posts I asked for book recommendations. I’ve been out of the reading world for months now, hence out of stuff to read. In case any of you are in the same situation allow me to share what some of our lovely readers, including Harlot, have recommended.

Ale says:

The Courtesan’s Daughter and The Courtesan’s Secret by Claudia Dain

I’ve heard nice things about this series, yet the ratings in Amazon are quite mediocre. I hesitate to buy them because I’m only in the mood for a very very good read. I need to know that whatever book I read next is short of amazing. I want something to make me forget that we lost, not something that will have me banging my head against a wall (*cough* like that stupid “Pleasure” series by EJ *cough*).

Dance recommends:

Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas
To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt
Blue Eyed Devil and Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas
Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran
Devil’s Cub and Cotillion by Georgette Heyer
“Sharing Knife” series by Lois McMaster Bujold

I already got the “Sharing Knife” series, but I now worry that this is the fantasy series Harlot said I should get the other day. One that includes a hero with wings in his cock. Can someone let me know if my assumptions are right so that I can refrain from reading said travesty in a book?

Shoshana says:

“Carnation” series by, er, someone
“Ladies No. 1 Detective” series by A.M. Smith

Now, Shosh hasn’t read this series and as much as I love her, the lovely Amal and I don’t really share tastes in books. She’s gaga over S. Brockmann’s “Troubleshooter” series, that whatsis brothers series by Mary Balogh, and that other series with the Scottish lords that time travel and become fairies. Really hated all the books I’ve read from these authors/series. Surely you can understand my hesitation LOL.

Harlot recommends:

Apparently, every book in the whole wide world so I’ll copy her comment in its entirety above this one.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. find out what it means to me

Disclaimer: This is my opinion based on someone’s comment on a BB I frequently visit, love and enjoy. This is not—and should be not taken—as a personal jibe towards the person that made the comment. These types of discussions are really not welcomed at FABB, which, I understand and respect so I decided to post my thoughts here. I value and like the person that made the comment; my views just differ from her on this subject. True?

Some of you might remember this post I wrote when I finished reading Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas a couple of years ago. Rereading my post, it seems I didn’t think the book was all that bad, and yet, for some reason, I believe I hated it LOL. Weird how memory does this to you.

Anyhoodles, all I can remember of the book is:
  • Hero has sex with a prostitute while pretending it’s the heroine.
  • Heroine dresses up as woman of ill repute to entice hero to have sex with her; dim-witted. Hero “falls” for her scam, doesn’t recognize her *snort* and proceeds to “almost” take her flower. (Yes, I can see clearly now why I believe I hate this book; God what rubbish this plot is.)
  • Heroine, who is in love with a country-bumpkin, goes back home to him—after almost giving her flower to prostitute-shagging hero—and tries to seduce him. (I can’t remember why country-bumpkin refused to have sex with her. Some idiotic reason I’m sure.)
  • Hero carries heroine’s glasses inside his pockets for months. (I need to know if sane people actually go around doing stuff like that. I’d run and hide from any guy that kept, say, a dirty sock of mine in his pockets.)
  • Heroine bumps into prostitute-shagging hero at some party a week after trying to have sex with country-bumpkin and, lo and behold, realizes she’s in love with him! Be still my heart!
This is someone’s comment about the having-sex-with-a-prostitute-pretending-it’s-the-woman-you-love thing:

The hero, Derek Craven, sleep with the prostitute (Tabitha) pretending it’s the heroine, Sara. It was a very poigniant (sp?) moment because it shows how desperate Derek was for Sara, but he still had enough respect for her to not ruin her “lily-white life.”

I’m sorry, but: What. The. Fuck?

I’m a firm believer that humans aren’t born to be monogamous, but that monogamy is learned in civilized society (and hey, I’m all for civilized society LOL). I also believe that sex without love is just sex, very different from the merging of two minds, bodies and souls in love.

Now, what I don’t get is the respect and poignant part. Because he respected her he fucked other women? Color me damn confused but I’d rather no respect at all than that “poignant” kind of “respect.” I’d easier forgive someone for cheating on me because he wanted to or was attracted to someone else than tolerate that “I respect you, therefore I shag others” BS.

I must be missing something here but this Derek dude was nothing but a manhandling bully that fell for stupid disguises, had sex with prostitutes and kept other’s rubbish in his pockets. Really, people, hardly the description of a man women swoon over.

How many ways are there to spell idiot?

Both candidates [Obama and Clinton] are targeting superdelegates in aggressive lobbying campaigns.

Carol Ann Campbell, a superdelegate from Philadelphia, which votes April 22, played for a reporter a recent voice mail from Michelle Obama.

“Hi, Carol, this is Michelle Obama. I’m the wife of Barack Obama, who is running for president. Just reaching out to see where you stand on this presidential race, and obviously we want your public support of Barack.”

Campbell said in an interview she was “somewhat” leaning toward Hillary Clinton. ”Not so much because of her,” she said, “but because of her husband. A brilliant man.”

What. The. Fuck? How can anyone say something that stupid? You can’t vote for someone based on how much you like their husband, how cute you think he/she is, or—god forbid—on how nice their shoes are. *head-desk*

On another note:

Hello!? The United States has GOT to do something about this insane anyone-and-their-crazy-grandma-can-get-a-gun thing. How many deaths will it take for people to understand that? Honestly, your personal right to protect yourself would work so much better if THERE WERE NO GUNS OUT THERE in the wrong hands, to begin with. How selfish can people get?

Take a look at what the U.N. wants and tell me it doesn’t make sense:
  • Reduce the number of guns in private hands that include mandating a maximum one-gun-per-person rule;
  • A ban on possession of handguns by anyone other than government officials and target shooters who would be forced to store their weapons at shooting ranges;
  • Worldwide licensing of firearms registered in a vast U.N. computer bank.
The right to “protect” yourself *snort* should not exclude someone else’s right to live. I’m just saying...

"This suprised me; my hallucinatory Edwards were usually better fed."

Why? *long suffering sigh* Why? Why don’t these Twilight casting directors ever listen to me??? This is like talking to Trollop or teaching platypuses or telling Brit Brit to wear knickers or asking Santa to whack Victoria so I can have Becks—I might as well ask them to box a kangaroo! I swear this is more frustrating than being trapped in a cave on a deserted island somewhere when I’m in dire need to fiddle with myself and there’s no BOB or handy porn! ARRGH!

Cast of Twilight movie (besides Ava from Grey’s Anatomy, I’ve never heard of these people):

(I was expecting a finger-lickin’ Nutella-licious mm mmmm Jasper after those heartless bastards brutally—BRUTALLY, I tell ya!—robbed me of an uber swoonsome Edward. What did they do instead? They picked a virgin dude who looks like he’ll keel over if I pinch him! Blech!)

Ashley Greene as Alice

Nikki Reed as Rosalie

Anna Kendrick as Jessica

Michael Welch as Mike

Justin Chon as Eric

Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria

Cam Gigandet as James

(Sweet jeezuz, FINALLY, eye candy. But, um, in what fucked up universe is James hotter than Edward?)

P.S. Thanks to Anan for this bit. All info from the Twilight Lexicon.

UPDATE: (Thanks Mallie!)

Kellan Lutz as Emmett

The right to choose

“She never lets ideas interrupt the easy flow of her conversation.”
- Jean Webster

I for one can’t stand Hillary or Bill. She sets feminism back a thousand years by tolerating Bill’s affairs—get a divorce for cripes sake!

I read this comment about Hillary Clinton in a blog a while ago, and I feel the need to say a couple of things about it. I’ve heard things along these same lines ever since Hillary tossed her name in as presidential hopeful but this one takes the cake.

You can think whatever you please about Mrs. Clinton; you can love or hate her; approve, or disapprove, of her political ideas; agree or disagree with her for staying with her husband after cheating but please, do not say something as absurd as “She sets feminism back a thousand years by tolerating Bill’s affairs.”

I think, as women, we should never forget what the core of the feminism movement is all about—and it’s not about cheating; it’s about equality and the right to choose that comes with it.

The principle of choice means that we respect, support and advocate for women’s individual and collective right to make our own decisions about our bodies, our families, our jobs and our lives. The right to choose is integral to the feminist pursuit of social, legal, political, economic and cultural equality for women.

Just as any of us can choose to leave our husbands or partners for cheating, other women have the same right to forgive and stay with them.

Some months ago a teacher asked us why we thought the feminism movement had slowed down in the last decade. A Spanish congresswoman, that was visiting us that day, said she believed it was in part because: the minute some women started rising above others, doing better, becoming more successful they were hated and scorned by the same group of women who used to defend the right for them to be “more” to begin with. Something we should all, perhaps, think about...

On annoying pushy people

*Deep breath* I have to vent.

I’ve mentioned in a couple of posts my new obsession with blog/BB hopping and the discovery that there aren’t just five blogs out there as I previously thought, but that there are hundreds of blogs dedicated to books, romance novels, celebrity gossip and entertainment—all things I lub lub lub.

This, of course, makes me happy. Give me unlimited coffee, a big jar of Nutella and a computer and you have a content woman.

But there’s something that’s just sawing at my nerves—this huge pet peeve with book blogs and book BBs. You want to know what it is? The fucking irritating Pushy Book Pushers (PBP), and yes, that’s the scientific name.

A good number of us have probably encountered one or two (or 100) throughout our internet life. For the most part PBPs fit a set profile, most often than not, in it’s entirety:
  • You just have to read every single book they’ve ever loved and even if it sucks you have to like it because, hey, they loved it and they are the end all and be all authority on books. *snort*
  • Every word you mention reminds them of yet another book that should be forced upon you—even your silence will probably get you a book recommendation about a deaf-mute or something.
  • If someone else tries to recommend a book they’ve already pushily pushed on other readers they get all territorial because, you know, they have no life and need that recognition since it’s the only love they seem to get. (In BBs it’s easier to notice that these people are always complaining of having no friends or family and usually have problems/rifts with everyone around them. I’m no psychologist but it ain’t hard putting 2+2 together LOL.)
  • They become defensive and enraged when you don’t like a book they loved. You’d think you ran over their dog or something. Geesh. Get a grip you dim-witted, PBP. It’s a free world, ya know? And if I’m required to read your annoying comments and put up with your relentless book pushing then you can sure as hell take others not liking the crap you force on them like a big girl (boy?) now. *wink*
I’m just saying... *g*

The Golden Globes suck troll balls

Good lord, I never thought I’d see the Golden Globes reduced to a lame press conference—and on CNN! Sheesh. I’m not complaining about the lost of its giant production (who cares about that crap?) but the lost of the circus-like pre-show and funny antics from drunken actors. Also, I would have loved to see Daniel Day-Lewis, Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem accept their awards. Talk about parade of beautiful men... *dreamy sigh* yummily wearing tux! Oh, be still my heart!

Damn the Writers’ Strike! I understand, truly I do, the strike is necessary yada yada but it deprived me of eye candy! *grrr* cancelled every fucking thing I watch on TV. And even now darling Jon and The Daily Show is back, it still doesn’t feel the same thing. Why why why do they do this to me?!? *wails* I’m not sure if it will help to have Raoul kiss every inch of my body but my golly, we’ve got to try something!!!

Oh. And I might as well add, on the -98% chance House writers are reading TBB: Please. I. Want. The. Ducklings. Back. Make Taub meet The Carver, kill Thirteen with Addison’s disease, give Kumar his own Taj Mahal Badalandabad show or chlamydia—I don’t care how just GET RID OF THE BORING NEWBIES.

Literature intolerant

“Genre is actually a recent invention, stemming from the period when there began to be too many books published for any one or even small group of people to read them all. There had to be some way of pre-sorting them. I find genre labels helpful when they guide readers to books, hurtful when they push them away. Genre is good as a door but bad as a wall, in other words—but since that wall really only exists in people’s minds, it never hurts to coax folks to be more adventurous.”
- Lois McMaster Bujold

Even before I started reading romance novels some five years ago, I always heard people dissing the genre. Be it for the covers or the poor writing or because it’s considered fluff with no real essence—or maybe because of the boy meets girl: they fight they make up, get married, have babies and live happily ever-after.

Now, as much as I dislike people who snub romance, I detest romance snobs more. You know the ones: romance readers who diss other genres just because they don’t fit the formula above. They complain about romance novels being treated poorly in the literary world yet they refuse to pick up a book that doesn’t include steamy sex scenes and a HEA.

I understand those that have tried other genres—and by that I don’t mean picking up ONE detective novel and leaving it after the third chapter; I’m saying giving it a REAL chance. Buying different novels by different authors that include a wide variety of topics and reading them through, and not comparing it to romance or pretending it’s romance.

Of course, if you are not interested in doing that it’s fine with me (I really could care less what people choose to read LOL) but don’t you dare say you won’t read “whatever book” because you don’t like that genre or because you only enjoy straight romance. I will think you are an ignorant fool if you say such a thing to me, so be warned of my wrath!

Kidding aside, guys, how can people go around saying stuff like “I don’t see how anyone could be a [famous romance author] fan AND a Harry Potter fan...” or “I only like romance and will read no other genre,” when you haven’t tried anything else that is out there!!!

For some reason this infuriates me; perhaps because what I hate most, above all (besides that “Power of Love” song), is stupidity.

Santa, it's me, the dirty wench who loves Christmas

Hola Santa,

I have been a good girl. Well... reasonably good. :/ I can’t be like Trollop who all of a sudden appointed herself as Brit Brit’s champion. I don’t know what kind of humongous sin she had to atone for or what black magic had been performed on her person but I’d rather be bad baaaaad baddy bad bad than be sucked in on that voodoo. My bitchy soul will shrivel and die, I tell you!

Now, Santa, this has been a verra wacky year for me so I’m thinking it’s more than fair I get what I want this Christmas. For a while I considered pushing you to finally make Prince William into HRH, Harlot’s Royal Honeybunch. But, I now realized, I could never really be Mrs. Prince William because... *long suffering sigh* my Raoul WILL die (oh, he needs and loves me so!). So, um, for uber true love... goodbye oh-so-shiny castles... *sniffles*

You see what I’m willing to sacrifice for love?!? And I’m willing to sacrifice more if you’ll give me what I’m asking for! That’s right, Santa. I’m willing to sacrifice my wants and needs—a Bugatti Veyron 16.4, one of my love slaves named Eduardo Corrochio, shopping spree in Paris, my very own pritti yacht (you know how much I love shopping and boats *sob*)—all that for the goodness of gazillions and gazillions of people in the world!

I only want one itty, bitty, tiny simple thing: I WANT YOU TO MAKE THAT HOPPING WARTY POT TO FOLLOW J.K. ROWLING AROUND AND MAKE HER LIFE FULL OF DRAGON BOOGIES.

Now, hear me out, Santa. I don’t want the hopping pot to trample that blast-ended witch. Just torture her some, pinch her a bit (if the pot’s toes can do it), clang-clang-clang her from here to kingdom come till her ears are bleeding and she finally sees her big-big-BIG folly and make The Tales of Beedle the Bard AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE and not just for those rich sons of banshees who have £1.95m (US$3.98m). For charity, my hopping foot! She just likes to see me suffer!

Santa, you might think I always wish JKR harm but, truly, it’s only when she’s not playing fair. I swear on the statue of Babbitty Rabbitty, that witch and those Amazonians are in cahoots together. You’d think a book I covet but can never evah evah have is enough torture already but nooooo... They have to rub it in my face by posting tons of TOBTB pics on their site *GRRR* including reviews of each of its fairy freakin’ tales! For Voldemort’s nipples, I refuse to be beaten by such nasty, cruel maniacs!

Rudolph knows I tried to do this in a peaceful manner—GOOD Harlot that I am—but it didn’t work. I’ve written JKR several times but I dunno if she’s gotten my letters because those smart-asses at the PO claim “Sadistic Evil Witch” is not a real address. Honestly, it would have been nice had they mentioned that before I spent $199.98 on postage. :@

What I’m trying to say is, this is really important, Santa. Think of all the kiddies and HP fans who are counting on me. Oh, I get warm and hopeful (and what else are the holidays supposed to be about if not hope?) with the thought of the hopping pot pestering JKR and she bawls like a baby—goody!—and it drives her crazy *MWA HA HA HA* till she gives in. Imagine, me and my own copy of TOBTB hopping off into the sunset happily ever after together forever... *far away look, dreamy sigh*

I’LL. BE. WAITING.

Sincerely naughty,
Harlot

Want to know what I've been up to?

No, it’s not been knee-deep in politics like I should be—or like I hoped—seeing as prez elections are in May ’08. Oh, no, I have been kidnapped by my sister Bridezilla and our mother The Wedding Nazi. Every story you ever heard about crazy brides and their deranged mothers? ALL TRUE!!!

Just three more weeks to go; I have to keep reminding myself to breathe in and out and not lose it but I swear on my new ebookwise (*g*) if I hear one more thing about fucking matching shoes and “IT’S MY WEDDING AND I’LL DO WHAT I WANT TO,” the blood is going to run!!!!! At least I’ll look good in prison in my tres chic Pronovias dress. *big grin*
